Icheon-si Youth Saemaul Alliance

이천시청년새마을연대

A volunteer group of young people in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. This page is a short summary in English; the rest of the site is in Korean.

About us

Icheon-si Youth Saemaul Alliance (이천시청년새마을연대) is a registered non-profit volunteer organisation based in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. It was registered with the Icheon Tax Office on 25 October 2024.

Our members are young people in Icheon, including self-employed business owners, farmers and livestock farmers, and office workers. We carry on the Saemaul Undong (New Village Movement) principles of diligence, self-help and cooperation through hands-on work in our community.

Icheon City’s youth portal (in Korean, opens in a new tab) lists us among the city’s youth organisations, with the vision of “building a community where we all live together”.

What we do

  • Under a village pavilion, a member trims the hair of an older resident, seen from behind, while another member lays out towels and hair-care supplies

    Care for older neighbours

We visit village halls around Icheon to give older residents free haircuts and hair colouring. In December 2025 we also donated winter essentials for older residents through the Korea Senior Citizens Association’s Icheon branch.

  • Seen from a distance, volunteers in vests bend over long rows of plastic-mulched beds to plant cabbage seedlings in a field in Baeksa-myeon

    Growing and sharing kimchi cabbage

Our members plant kimchi cabbage in Baeksa-myeon together with local Saemaul groups, with seedlings supported by Icheon Nonghyup (the Icheon agricultural cooperative). The harvest goes to welfare facilities and local Saemaul groups for kimjang, the winter kimchi-making season, so it can be shared with neighbours in need. Our third planting day took place in August 2026.

  • At a festival booth under a banner that says “Take nature out!” in Korean, members in green vests pot yellow flowers, and flowers planted in used cups and cans line the front table

    Recycling at local festivals

At local festivals we run hands-on recycling booths. At the Icheon Baeksa Sansuyu Flower Festival in April 2026, we worked with the dessert café brand Eupcheonri 382 on an activity where visitors planted flowers in pots made from empty aluminium drink cans. At the Eco Pang Pang summer festival in August 2026, visitors who brought a used plastic cup had a succulent planted in it.

We also help run city events alongside other local youth groups, such as Icheon’s summer water festival in August 2025.

We have signed cooperation agreements with the following organisations, listed by date.
